Before going inside, you do place your order outside then go in to find a place to sit. I read about The Crack Shack in the Westways magazine, since I enjoy trying new places, I was eager to try it. They also have corn hole, set up and ready to play (this is a big plus). They have a full bar and a nice craft beer selection. The Schmaltz fries ($3) were thick, seasoned fries and enjoyed them. Had the Firebird sandwich ($12), while good, not $12 good. Real disappointed.ĭeviled Eggs (4) were $4.50, girlfriend loved them. Sign in back of restaurant says "exit only," found this odd too. Plenty of free off-street parking in back (good), but entrance in front. Order outside (sidewalk) and meal brought to your table. If pressed, I would describe "The Crack Shack" as a grown-up restaurant, which specializes in fried chicken (and chicken sandwiches). The roster of alcohol is not extensive, but sufficient to fulfill orders for highballs and cocktails. The bar has a good selection of craft beers. There are individual dining tables in between. There are booths on one side of the room there is a bar on the other side. As such, I've always had really good service. I mentioned the time of day when I visit because I have never been there when it was really busy. Also, the half pieces of chicken breast are more similar in size to the thigh and drumstick, so presentation is more aesthetic. It allows two people to split an order of a half chicken more easily. By the way: serving the breast in two pieces serves two purposes (I think). This is served in five pieces: a wing a thigh a drumstick and the breast cut into two pieces. I also like the fact that the breading is not excessive it's rather minimalist. With reference to their recipe, the spice combination in the breading does give "The Crack Shack" a taste profile that is unique to them. As a result, the texture of the meat is firmer and denser that what you experience with a lot of other fried chicken. One of the differentiators for this restaurant chain is that they use Jidori (brand) free range chickens. I like fried chicken and I like to try various interpretations of fried chicken. ![]() I have only had the fried chicken I've never had one of their chicken sandwiches. I have only eaten here mid-day, mid-week.
